A couple more scrappy quilts - the colourwash blocks were given to me some 10 years ago as part of a gift of quilting goodies given to my husband & me after 2011 flood. Finally put in to a quilt. Really happy with both of them.
My travelling can take you from Auchenflower to suburbs of Brisbane, parts of Australia or different countries of the world - hope you enjoy the trip!

Sandgate Artist Studio Trail
A friend & I hit the Open Studio Trail in Sandgate (just north of Brisbane city) to check these clever artists. I didn't take any photos of the art but the gardens did inspire. Above are all from the one garden- so much to look at & so quirky - loved it. Some inspiration for a quilt or 2 in the mosaics.
This garden was wonderful & the work of artist Marie Smith & her husband. She buys the plants & he keeps them alive & they thrive. He's a wood carver and they share a huge shed. It was a wonderful day & for those in the area - it's on again this coming weekend (30th & 31st) - there are flags outside the studios and a booklet is available. Met lots of wonderful people. A good place to start is Narcoopa Gallery in Phillips Street, Bracken Ridge.

A couple of quilts
This one was made form a Yellow Brick Road patter using the Wuthering Heights range of fabrics. Well used i winter, finished in 2010.
"Aria's Pinwheels" - combined 2 UFO's - the pink pinwheels were the start of a pink and white quilt I thought I'd make. The small applique blocks were done many years ago. There was a book of Delft block patters & again, I thought it would make a nice quilt. Those elements have been faithfully waiting in a box & now have joined to make a quilt for a friend's new baby girl. So happy it all worked.

Church Banners
These banners were made over a number of years - This one, "Give Thanks" made from a patter in 2002. It had an outing a couple of weeks ago for our Thanksgiving service.
"Pentecost" was again made from a patter in 2002 - it's out in the church at the moment for the Sundays after Pentecost.
"Lent - Meditate" was made in 2004 for the season of Lent - must remember to hang it again next year.
"The Way" was also made in 2004 - there is a white donkey in the lower left hand corner - some of my 'friends' tried to tell me it was a kangaroo!!!! This one is for Palm Sunday. My own design.
"The Way" is rather a large quilt hanging in the church most of the time. My own design & from my stash as are all the quilts. Made in 2004.
"He is Risen" - the archway & bricks started in an Esterita Austin class many years ago. I added the cross and machine quilted it in 2007. It hangs at Easter.

Flyover before Riverfire 2021
This plane (a C 17, I think) came over our house and then along the Brisbane River to delight the crowds waiting for the fire works. It was soooooo low!
There were 4 helicopters in all - again heading for the river.

Murky Waters
Detail of Murky Waters
My entry, "Murky Waters' into our juried exhibition, SOTA21 - it was selected and hopefully will be on display at the Queensland Quilters Quilt Show in October (we are crossing fingers that this will go ahead). The inspiration was a perfectly coiled rope on a boat - the rope that helps us if we find ourselves in murky waters & there's always a spark of hope in those murky waters (the red splashes).
Bit deep for me, I know!

Portrait of One Lady
Nothing too exciting has happened this year. However, our Royal National Show (the Ekka) decided to go ahead with the judging of the Quilts Across Queensland despite the whole show being cancelled (thank you to COVID). I was really surprised and pleased to be awarded a 3rd in the category - Small Quilt, any Technique.
The background was a tablecloth embroidered by my sister who passed away in 2001. I cut it up to make a relative square and added the machine sketched portrait of a lady and hand quilted the background.
I like to think my sister would have been pleased with this ribbon too.

Hungry Caterpillar Quilt
This top was given to me by a friend as a Christmas present (she was clearing her cupboard). I finished quilting it at a retreat last weekend. Given to our neighbour's baby, Frankie. They loved it - Frankie's only 1 month old so I don't think she cares.

Ripper Mystery Game
We went through dark alleys (not really - this was the way to the Bean Coffee Shop before we started the game).
We reckon there were a couple of hundred people enjoying this game. We started in Queens Gardens.
Groups of people checking out the clues on their mobile phones - all done through Cluedupp Mystery Games app. Ann Street Uniting Church.
In King George Square too - people everywhere trying to figure out 'who dun it!'
We got it - we were so pleased with ourselves.
All 4 1 - outside the Bean - this intelligent foursome made our city safe again - oh, ok - along with a couple of others too - maybe a couple of hundred of others.
