25 hours on the Train

It's a 25 hour trip - the chairs are put down into a pod style bed - 2" foam, not super comfortable but OK for an overnight.  Lots of cane fields the further north we went.
The Galley car - if you wanted a drink or coffee and X's on the seats indicated where you couldn't sit.  Bigger windows gave a much better view of the landscape.
Just one of the views out the window.

A couple more Quilts

This was made for middle son some 20 years ago, his dog uses it as his mat when he comes to stay.

Another scrappy quilt - detail above, whole quilt below.  No borders, machine quilted and hopefully will be well used by someone.

Trip to Cairns

We're doing our bit for the economy - taking the Spirit of Queensland to Cairns - a long 25 hour journey.

Seats are comfortable - lots of leg room, complimentary goodies and water.

Three meals included with the 1st Class experience and the food was good - just the dishes are hard to navigate (not plates as shown - rectangle dishes) but real cutlery!  Oh - and a glass of wine.

Your own screen to watch movies etc

And, of course, countless hours to gaze at the scenery.

Another find

Cleaning out - came across my wedding dress - I'd shortened it, shortened the sleeves and made a scooped neckline - never did wear it again!  Too late now - won't fit.

Made this lovely evening dress - it has gold speckles through the material.  I remember wearing to the ballet where Rudolph Nureyev was dancing.  He performed at Festival Hall here in Brisbane which was where they held the weekly wrestling and rock concerts, also saw Roy Orbison there.  Classy joint!!!

Sampler from my childhood

Front of the sampler - 2 different ways of attaching lace, button holes, think at the top were ways of making openings for pockets and my initials in satin stitch plus a scalloped finish!  And the zip!

Back of the sampler - pretty good for a young girl - not sure how old I was - but would have been 10 - 12 yrs old.  What a shame it's not taught today.  Would have been on a treadle machine too.
