Framed pieces

"Indigo & Rust" - rust-dyed background with some commercial indigo type fabric and rust coloured lace.  Can you see the little bird that presented itself as I looked at the splotches of dye. It's almost in the middle at the bottom.

"Landscape #5" - Practising my machine thread sketching.  A collaged background enhanced ( at least I think so) by the machine work.  The sheep wandered on to the landscape and looked just right.

This landscape was made by my friend, Merody, in a workshop with Sue Benner (I think) many years ago and she handed 3 to me to 'do something with'.  This is the first one and I gave it back to her, finished.  Really enjoy doing this little pictures.

Practising my thread sketching on a collaged background.  Getting better and happy with how this looks.

Workshop last week

 I attended a workshop with Sue Duffy https://ratherbequilting.wordpress.com 

She won Best of Show in Queensland a couple of years ago. Does amazing work.

 Used water colour pencils and thread sketching - thought this chick had a dinosaur leg.

 Placed on the background with the lily pads, the chick doesn't really look out of place.  Have yet to finish the applique.  The hen & chick have been trapuntoed (is there such a word??).

 Sue's piece - we could choose this one or another piece - similar theme.

Sue's piece - the bird is called a Jacana (for those who need to know) and it lives on lakes around Brisbane (& probably other places too) - big feet to 'walk' on the lily pads, also known as the Jesus bird!  It was a great workshop - now I have to finish it...……………..

Thread Sketching

 A weekend away with friends to sew, talk, laugh, get inspired and generally have a really relaxing time.  

I practised my thread sketching and once I looked at the photos I saw where I could improve - either with the drawing or with the stitching.  However, I am happy with the result - hopefully I'll get better with practise.

Weekend retreat results

 Was feeling a little miserable on retreat - had a cold, had forgotten or brought the wrong projects to do & so, I had to play.  Drew these little pictures & proceeded to thread sketch.

 Can't believe I drew this face & really happy with the thread work.

Jugs - first try - bit random but I like it.
