Landscape #2

This landscape was made by my friend, Merody, in a workshop with Sue Benner (I think) many years ago and she handed 3 to me to 'do something with'.  This is the first one and I gave it back to her, finished.  Really enjoy doing this little pictures.

Off to Germany

A Quilt for Arthur - simple & made from my stash
Backing fabric had goannas, kookaburras, koalas etc and embroidered the lable directly to the fabric.

Detail - embroidered 'A is for Arthur' in English and in German!  Sounds impressive but the only difference is in the words 'is for' - German 'ist fur' with umlauts over the 'u'.
A cushion cover for Alma - a panel of the beautiful unicorn, embroidered detail and added sequins. If you click on the photo you might just see what detail has been added.

Significant birthday

Celebrated a significant birthday yesterday with immediate family and some of our close friends.  HofM surprised me.  Thank you to Kath for the lovely mud cake - glad she didn't add the number of candles needed.

Colour Challenge - Rainbow for November

I thread painted the bird and lilies and was really happy with the result.
I called this postcard 'Colours of Australia'.
This one is called "The Party's Over".  I have black to do for December - who knew that this would be appropriate considering what most of our States are going though with all the bush fires.

Boonah Retreat - last for the year.

Visitors morning & evening - the only patch of green grass around.  Most of it is so brown, it' heart breaking.
Sunset on Saturday evening - the smoke from the mountains gave this very firey show.
This is a banner that our group produced in 2002 (I think that's the date on the back) - all our signatures provided lots of discussion and memories.

Journal Cover

The back of the Journal Cover
The front cover
Opened out - the base material was the leg of a pair of black jeans.  Free stitched - just went where I please - used mainly perle cotton thread.  Have the other leg - not sure what I'll do with it.

Longest Lutheran Lunch

Every year around this time, our church family gets together at the German Club for lunch. This  year we were a bit low on numbers but still had 35 - usually have around 70.  Great food as anyone who's eaten at the Club knows. Beer good and company was great too.

October - purple

Purple was the colour this October's Challenge at 2QAQ.  The one above I called "Petals on the Footpath" - free motioned quilted with purple thread.  One below  is called "Jacaranda Seeds" and the bottom one is "Purple Tree".  Only 2 more months - November's colour is Rainbow (think Melbourne Cup, jockey's colours) and December is Black (bush fires).  Nearly there.
Photocopied images of seeds on to fabric, hand appliqued on to purple background, single lazy daisy stitched to emulate the seeds.

The tree is an image from the internet, copied on to fabric, then I over stitched (by hand) the purple blossoms.  The trunk was machine stitched.

Margaret won 4th in Amateur Pieced

More of our display - our colour challenge is highlighted in our displays.

Playing this afternoon

Made up this little piece (5 1/2" square) as a practise for a much large piece - just laid down torn strips of fabric, free motion stitched over the pieces then added the grasses and trees.  The large piece won't be anything like this apart from probably same techniques (maybe).  The large piece can't be shown when it's finished as it's being entered into a juried competition.  Really enjoyed this.

Really Goosey - finished & entered in to our Qld Quilt Show - October.
 Detail of Really Goosey

Wonky Log Cabins - finished & entered for display in the quilt show.  My scraps don't appear to have been depleted by these 2 scrappy quilts.  I'll keep trying to empty the bins.
