2020 Qld Quilters Show - October

This is mine - my first ever FIRST!  I was over the moon.  A small piece call "We Will Remember"

Detail - gold thread used to "write" name - the tope of the quilt had the names of conflicts that Australia has been a part of.

We published a calendar with some of the winning quilts included - I got February.

Our theme  for this year was Home/House & here are a few of the quilts entered.

This was part of a triptych - the year in Queensland.

Nicky's display

Friend & QldQuilters' member, Nicky Haron was the guest quilter.

She had 40 quilts on display as well as lots of lovely soft toys she made over the years.

Five of mine on display

 This was my entry in the Qld Quilters' Challenge 2018. - "We're on our Way"

 "Grannie's Back" - started in a workshop with Pam Holland at Quilt Encounter 2017 in Adelaide.

 This quilt started out as a Mystery Quilt with Sherwood Stitchers, became a single bed quilt that just didn't want to play nicely - the quilting was beating me - so it was put away & brought out at a retreat & opinions were asked for.  One suggestion - chop it up!  So I did & put back together, quilt as you go & it's now a lovely wall quilt.

Top left - "Jacaranda Time" one of my entries in SOTA18  and bottom right - "Tide's Out" my other entry - really happy with all my quilts.

 Best of Show for 2018 - Lyn Crump - it's magnificent

 This quilt was made by a 16 yr old boy - Jackson - free motion quilting on a domestic machine - wait till he's had some practise!!!!!!!!!!!

Quilt Connect

Some of the 24 items up for auction in our Silent Auction.  All donated by our Qld Quilters' members. Spent the day talking with members from all over south-east Queensland, more of the same tomorrow & Saturday.  Lots of smiling faces.

 More circles - loved these too.

 Priscilla outdid herself with this one - Helen Godden style. There were words stitched in the 'rivers' running out of the book.

This was only one block on a fascinating 1st time entrant.  The quilt depicted scenes from Africa & there was a lot of hand stitching - just brilliant.  Queensland Quilters outdid themselves again - a great show & a big thank you to all who helped get it there.

Royal National Show 2017

 Our Royal National Show (the Ekka) is on at the moment.  I did white glove duty today but had a chance to look at the cakes first.  There are hexagons around the base of this one.

 Loved this one - it belonged to a friend.  Look at the photo closely & you'll see that she has quilted other names for circles in the white.

 Best of Show - just fantastic - a triptych.

 Detail of the above - a lot of Australian fabrics were used.

 Top 40 - rock stars made - people were having fun trying to figure out who was who.

Wonderful applique, colour & quilting.

Sherwood Stitchers Quilt Show

 Everything's hung and ready for the visitors.  We use an Anglican church, remove all the chairs and up go the stands & the quilts

 We're a group of patchworkers, sewers, crocheterers (is there such a word?) and knitters.  Our raffle quilts for this year are the 2 on the right of the photo.

 We raise funds for the Linus Project - this year over $3,000 will go to help buy wadding & backings etc.

And then the day was over and quilts were down.  The minister asked that we leave some up on the walls and the raffle quilts were left in front of the altar.  Thank you to everyone from Sherwood Stitchers who helped and those friends that visited.
