Stashbusters

Each Month we receive two colours and of a word of inspiration which we can use if we need to.  The piece is 8" square.  

January - rusty orange & lavender and the word was circle..

February - we had red and dark blue - didn't use the inspiration word - can't remember is now.

March - olive green and sun yellow.  Inspiration word eludes me.

April - rusty orange and brown.

May - Sky blue and forest green.

June - Indigo blue and brown.

Enjoying this challenge - some months it's easy & other months, the inspiration 

comes slowly.  Thanks to Brenda Wood - 2Sew Textiles for making this so much fun.

 

Hi Again!

It's always hard to fit everything you want to do into a very busy life.  I've finished my stint as President of Qld Quilters and, despite a few withdrawal symptoms, am looking forward to perhaps, getting more sewing in - time will tell.

This year was the 40th Anniversary of Qld Quilters and everything focused a round red, ruby, 40 - you get the picture and the above was my entry into the Challenge "Celebrating 40".

 At our Art Quilt Group, we've had various Challenges and the above represents a song.  The challenge was to depict a favourite song, movie or book - we had some great entries.  Just in case you don't get it - mine was Green, green Grass of Home - home is there on the LHS.

Today

Saw one of my old quilts being used at my Mum's Aged Care Facility by one of the residents.  Think I made this in the early 2000's as an entry in the annual fabric Challenge for Qld Quilters Inc.  Val is enjoying it at the moment.

Our orchid that just hangs around in flower.  A really great splash of purple.

A quilt finished.  Hand stitching, hand quilting & I'm happy with it.

I called it "Thunder Eggs"

 

Qld Quilters March Meeting

Above are some of the members' quilts from Show'n'Tell - a talented bunch.

We had speakers from Qld Women's Historical Assn and they brought along a couple of antique quilts.  This crazy quilt was beautiful and created a lot of interest.

 

SOTA23

The theme for this year's exhibition was "Flora" and there were size restrictions.  The top one was called "My Flora" - imagined bacteria in my gut - wasn't accepted!  Don't think that it would have looked good in the exhibition with most artists probably using flowers or pretty things as their inspiration.

The bottom one, "Poppy Fields" was accepted and I'm really pleased with it.  Collaged background and poppies vliesoflexed & stitched.

No quite sure what to do with "My Flora". It's 15" x 15". 

 

Boro - in essence

My T-shirt was too loved to throw away when it developed little holes - boro to the rescue - nobody notices the repairs until I point them out.  I only point them out to friends who understand the need to repair/enhance loved clothing.

2023

At the end of 2022, I had a birthday and this time I was given a party by my husband and one of my sons .  It wasn't an 0 birthday but made special by the fact, that they organised it all, phoning my friends with invitations, food, cleaning the house (the best present ever!) and getting al things ready.    A couple of my friends couldn't make it so I dined out - lunch on one day and coffee on another and a visit to the Japanese garden on another.  I don't usually take photos of my food but these pancakes deserved a post on their own.  They were delicious.  I had a wonderful birthday with my very special friends.  Thank you dear husband and No: 2 son!

 

what I'm doing now!

I bought a Gell plate and have been having fun doing some mono printing.  This is my first layered print - quite happy with it & I'm looking forward to playing more.

Also finished this scrap quilt - it's a pattern by Bec Brennan called "It's a Lot" Quilt - really enjoyed making - only complaint - my scraps haven't decreased much at all.

Also finished this scrap quilt.  Getting back into sewing again after the flood in February, my areas are getting tidier & I feel like quilting again.  

 

2020 Qld Quilters Show - October

This is mine - my first ever FIRST!  I was over the moon.  A small piece call "We Will Remember"

Detail - gold thread used to "write" name - the tope of the quilt had the names of conflicts that Australia has been a part of.

We published a calendar with some of the winning quilts included - I got February.

Our theme  for this year was Home/House & here are a few of the quilts entered.

This was part of a triptych - the year in Queensland.

Liked this one.
