Sunday Drive

 We actually stopped & looked at this historical marker.

 Of course, Vic had to try it.

 Water was pumped up but there was a sign "not fit to drink" - so we didn't.

 On to Templin Historical Village near Boonah - slab hut - they certainly did it tough then.

 Fashion House - lots of great displays including the sewing machines.

 Finished "Owl's Playground" in time for a friend's new baby boy.

 I may have shown this before but as we head to my parent's 70th wedding anniversary in September, it's bringing back memories.  I made this for their 50th - not even thinking, at the time, that they may be around for another 20 years.  I was new to quilting when I started this & designed the borders (would do them differently now!)  When I look at my stitching, it was pretty good & I don't think I could do as well now. It's hand appliqued and hand quilted.

 Each of the nine traditional applique blocks have dates embroidered on them which hold meaning for Mum & Dad, the strawberry wreath has the birth dates of my niece & nephew whose Mum (my sister) died some 17 years ago.  The leaves on the borders hold names of all family members and places they've lived and so it becomes a story of their lives.  They're in a old aged home now (rooms side by side), Dad has dementia & Mum is still with it & manages to help all the old people when she can!!!

Canvases for Sale

We had 24 canvases made for sale & there are only 10 left  - absolutely thrilled that they proved so popular.

 I was fortunate to have 2 pieces juried in to the exhibition - this one is hand stitched & called "Tide's Out" - inspiration from low tide in Mousehall in Devon - boats resting on the sand when the tide is out.

This one is called "Jacaranda Time" - inspired by an aerial view of Grafton, NSW at jacaranda time.  If you look closely there's a red dot on the artist's statement.  Much to my surprise , it was sold - just a tad overwhelmed but extremely happy.

Whale Festival

Last Sunday at Scarborough Beach, Redcliffe Peninsula, a Whale Festival was held.  Whale migration season will soon be happening so we had face painting, 'real' mermaids and King Neptune himself.  It was so windy & cold, we didn't stay for the outdoor movie - you guessed it, "Finding Nemo!"
